clearly marked and a few seconds 
later you have the three black cases 
open and you can see the instruments 
in front of you. Doctor Fong is pleased.
“That’s great Skylar. Now we are going to do some 
tests. But I need you to be safe, ok? I heard what 
happened earlier, so if Doctor Cleaver shows any 
signs of becoming violent you get right back where 
you can be safe, ok? Good. Pick up the reaction 
tester. We can use this to see what kind of things he 
will respond to. You should be able to see how to 
hold it?”
You pick it up and see that it fits in your hand and 
has some buttons and a screen. You press the 
power button and it lights up.
“That’s great. Now, Skylar, put your phone in your 
chest pocket so the camera sticks out and I can see 
what’s going on. Good. Ok, now go out and move 
slowly and quietly until you’re standing about two 
metres in front of him.”
You advance out slowly. Doctor Cleaver glances at 
through small window in the door and then cry 
out and fall back as Cleaver’s face is pressed right 
up to the window. You almost panic but his face 
just looks empty. He looks at you for another few 
seconds and then turns away. 
Doctor Fong says urgently, “Skylar? Are you ok? 
What’s happening?”
“I’m ok. Just a sec…”
You go back to the door and summon the courage 
to look through the window again. Doctor Cleaver 
is sitting on a bed playing with a bandage and 
rocking side to side. You pass this on to Doctor 
Fong.
“Ok, that’s good,” she says. “I want you to find 
a couple of things in there for me. We need the  
reaction tester, the fluid sampler and the infrared 
body scanner. Can you see them? Look around.”
You move around the shelves and find with relief 
that Doctor Cleaver is one of those people who 
has a label maker and loves to use it. Everything is
