“but the line seems dead. They think
there’s a problem with something here
at the base. I have an engineer who wants
to talk to you, I’m putting him through.”
You look at the console and tap the flashing speech
bubble icon.
“Hello?” you say.
“Hello Devon, my name is Antonio Garcia. I’m
a communications engineer. I know you’ve just
witnessed something scary, but I need you to focus
right now. Can you do that for me?” He asks in a
deep, gruff voice.
You’re not sure if you can, but you’re going to try.
“Of course, what do you need?”
“Great. We’re trying to contact the space station

your end and need you to run a check on the
communications system. There’s a shortcut on the
console called CSD – tap on that please.” Tapping
the icon brings up a blank screen with a flashing
Ms Rahman had been showing you some of the
main tools and components that the engineers use
for repairs. You pick up the electron beam welder.
“It’s a bit like a glue gun, except instead of pumping
out glue it produces a high energy beam that can
melt metals. Join the parts, melt the join, job done,”
Ms Rahman had told you, and you remembered

lolly sticks for a school competition.
As you reach for the next object, Sasha’s voice
comes over the comms.
“Devon, are you there? Are you ok?” she asks,
sounding concerned.
“Yeah, I am. I mean, I am locked in an engineering
workshop with a zombie outside, but I’m ok.
What’s going on?” you ask.
“We’re trying to figure that out.” Not the answer
you were hoping for.
“Earth control has asked us to contact the lunar
orbital space station,” they continue,
